Although the tracks look a bit like squirrels they
are clearly much smaller. My first thought was
a chipmunk so I search for some images
and they look pretty close.

That snag is a perfect place to stay warm in the winter and to raise babies in the summer. I love tracks and I sat and looked at those for a while.. not that I know all that much about them. I have never seen a chipmunk here, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any. It would be neat if you could ever see the critter that is using that tree... Michelle
Great post and photos on the critters home! It does look like a great place for them to stay warm.
Whenever I see critter homes like that, I always think it's where the wood nymphs and fairies live. Cool tracks in the snow.
